If you have a question, we want to give you the answer. Below are
some frequently asked questions about Peace Cereal. If you still
have concerns or just want to share your ideas about our products,
feel free to contact us.
I’ve heard that canola oil
is bad for you. Why do you use canola oil in some of your cereals?
Not all canola oils are created equally.
We select only the finest expeller pressed canola oil that is hexane
and preservative free. It’s better for human health, and much
better for the environment than the solvent extracted canola oil
marketed by conventional producers. Organic and natural canola oils
are just the types of fat your body needs. Replacing hydrogenated
and saturated oils and fats with cholesterol-managing oils like
expeller pressed canola and olive oils support a heart healthy diet.
You can find more information on canola and other healthy oils on
the Spectrum website at www.spectrumnaturals.com.

When I open my box of cereal
it looks like the bag is only half full. Why is that?
Our cereals are sold by weight, and the amount is standardized and controlled by state of the art packaging systems. Like many packaged foods providers, we use the form/fill/seal method. A plastic bag is formed from a sheet of plastic sealing the bottom and side of the bag. The bag is then filled with cereal and sealed at the top. This is how you find your cereal once you open your box. The form/fill/seal method also controls the level of air contained inside of the bag. The optimum level of air varies based on the product. The air acts as a cushioning system for the cereal, helping to insure that as little damage as possible is done to the flakes and other delicate ingredients, as well as preventing excessive crumbs. The amount of volume in our packaging assures the best possible taste and quality reaches your breakfast table, and our weight system assures you always receive the same amount of delicious cereal.
Nowhere on the box does it say that Hearty Raisin Bran or Maple Raisin Peace Cereal is vegan. I know that all of your products are vegetarian, and there isnŐt any dairy listed in the ingredient statement, so why is this cereal not labeled vegan?
Vegan foods are foods made without any animal products; including dairy, eggs, and honey. While all of our cereals are dariy-free, our Hearty Raisin Bran and Maple Raisin are not labeled vegan because they contain honey.
I had an allergic reaction
to eating your Mango Passion cereal yet I couldn’t find any
of things I am allergic to in the ingredient statement. How could
this happen?
The mango is a member of the sumac family, along with cashews, poison ivy, poison oak, and sumac. In some rare cases, if you are very sensitive to any of the above, mango could also cause an allergic reaction.
I am allergic to nuts. I love
your cereals but listed on all of them is a disclaimer saying the
product "may contain trace amounts of tree nuts, peanuts, wheat,
or soy." Why can’t you make a product that is safe for
me to eat?
We’re sorry you are not able to enjoy our products. But the
problem lies in trace amounts of allergens. Although our baking
equipment is cleaned thoroughly between batches, if the factory
also processes products with tree nuts, peanuts, wheat, or soy products
- those allergens might come into contact with our raw ingredients.
Therefore, it’s impossible to assume that allergic customers
will have no sensitivity to our foods.
Epazote leaf is listed as
one of the ingredients in some of your cereals. What is epazote
leaf and why is it in the recipe?
Ancient healing herbs Epazote leaf, cardamom seed, fennel seed,
and fenugreek seed not only taste good; they are also known to help
aid digestion. We want our cereals to be as enjoyable to your body
as they are to your taste buds!
There used to be a lot of
herbs and spices in your cereals, now there are less. Why did you
change the formula?
Since many of our customers indicated to us that they take nutritional
supplements, vitamins, and herbal healing teas, we decided it was
not necessary to continue adding herbs and spices to our formulas.
We now include only herbs used to aid digestion, like Epazote leaf,
cardamom seed, fennel seed, and fenugreek seed.
What is the difference between
vegetarian and vegan?
Although a vegan is always a vegetarian, a vegetarian is not always
a vegan. While vegetarians do not eat animal flesh, they will eat
animal products that can be obtained without harming the animal
- such as milk, cheese, butter, eggs, and honey. A "strict
vegetarian" will not eat eggs, and a vegan will also not eat
dairy or honey. So vegans are those who do not consume animal, dairy,
eggs, or honey. Find out more at www.vegan.org

How do I know when your cereal
expires? Where is the expiration date?
You can find the expiration date in the right hand corner of the
top flap of our cereal boxes. "BEST BY mm/dd/yy 00:00"
is written in black ink – this is the date our cereals are
guaranteed fresh before.
What does organic really mean?
The USDA describes organic as produced by farmers who emphasize
the use of renewable resources. They also emphasize the conservation
of soil and water to enhance environmental quality for future generations.
Organic meat, poultry, eggs, and dairy products come from animals
given no antibiotics or growth hormones. Organic food is produced
without using most conventional pesticides, fertilizers made with
synthetic ingredients or sewage sludge, bioengineering, or ionizing
radiation. Before a product can be labeled 'organic,' a government-approved
certifier inspects the farm where the food is grown to make sure
the farmer is following all the rules necessary to meet USDA organic
standards.
Using organic ingredients and producing organic products means we
care not only about creating healthier and better tasting products,
but also about the environment that we are leaving for our children.
You can find out more about organic standards and certifications
at the USDA web site at http://www.ams.usda.gov/nop/indexIE.htm

I
like the name Peace Cereal, but what exactly do you do to promote
peace?
We put our money where our name is! 10% of our profits sponsor International
Peace Prayer Day. At this annual non-denominational event, Peace Grants
are given to worthy men and women of peace – as well as to nonprofits
working for peace. In this way, we hope to promote a more loving planet.
We also take pride in creating happier communities and working environments
by being a socially responsible business.
